Kaley Payne is Eternity’s Deputy Editor on Monday and Tuesday.
Cats or Dogs: It’s going to make me sound like a horrible person … but I don’t really ‘do’ pets. I used to be petrified of dogs and I don’t trust cats. But I was really kind to my tamagotchi when I was 9!
Career Highlight: I love this job at Eternity – it’s really expanded my understanding of how God works in the world. I’ve loved hearing how he has changed people’s lives in unexpected ways, and writing about all the different ways that his purpose and plan is coming into being.
If you could wake up tomorrow in the body of someone else, who would you pick and what would you do? I’d love to be Ira Glass (from This American Life)! I’m not sure I’d like to be him forever… but I’d love to walk in his shoes for a few weeks, to see how his creative process works, how he picks stories and lets others go, how he interviews and chooses his next projects.
What cheers you up? My husband’s laugh. It’s my favourite sound in the world.
Favourite verse in the Bible: It changes! I’ve been reflecting on this from Exodus 14:14: “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” I’m not good at being still!
Favourite book: Eeek, way too hard to choose. So I’ll just tell you what I’m reading now, which is ‘Green Dolphin Street’. which was written in 1944 by Elizabeth Goudge. I’m enjoying it so far!
If you could be any age for a week, what age would you be? Just for a week? I think I’d choose 60. I reckon there’d be a lot of wisdom I could learn and bring back to my 30-year-old self.
What was your favourite subject in school? English.
What do you value most in life? God’s love and forgiveness.
