NZ gets a Cardinal, Cardinal gets a Bible

Bible Society New Zealand (BSNZ) this month presented a unique Polyglot Bible to its President, Archbishop of Wellington, John Dew, in recognition of his appointment as a Cardinal.

Cardinal Dew, who was appointed to the College of Cardinals by Pope Francis, was formally installed at a special ceremony in Rome on February 14 this year. The Cardinal has been President of BSNZ since 2013 and prior to that was Vice-President from 2012.

The Polyglot Bible given to Cardinal Dew is bound in burgundy leather and has 3,200 pages. It is a multi-lingual Bible, with the different texts displayed in parallel columns, and was produced by the American Bible Society, taking Biblical scholars more than a year and half to complete.

Cardinal Dew said, “I know this is an amazing gift, I am deeply grateful. It is a wonderful gift I will treasure.”

Francis Burdett, BSNZ CEO said, “This presentation is in recognition of Cardinal Dew’s appointment and the significant support of Bible mission he provides in his role as President of Bible Society New Zealand.”
