Distinctdisciples.com, a new online ministry for Australian Christians in the workplace, has launched today, providing resources to help Christians think through what it means to be “salt and light” in their workplaces.
One of the founders, Andrew Laird who studied at Sydney Missionary Bible College (SMBC), says the site is inspired by the New York-based Centre for Faith and Work, but will give an Australian Christian perspective on Aussie work culture.
“Many Christians aren’t sure how their faith intersects with their work life,” says Laird. “They aren’t even sure if God cares about it.”
Laird says there is an unhelpful divide between so called “secular” and “sacred” work.
“Such a divide isn’t biblical. We want to help Christians understand why their work matters to God so that they might be inspired to engage all the more fully with it and see it as a valuable ministry.”
According to Laird, one of the biggest issues Christians in the workplace face is how to rest.
“The need for rest, why we take rest, and how we can model that to our colleagues who are so driven for all sorts of other reasons – how Christians can be distinctive in the way they rest, as well as the way they work, is something we’ll explore on the site.”
Distinctdisciples.com launches today with blog posts, Bible studies, podcasts and links to other content from around the world on the Christian working life.
“We’re called to be different and distinct from the world, in all arenas, even in the workplace.”
