This new evangelistic initiative, AskGod.com.au is the brainchild of Outreach Media – the organisation behind the Outreach Posters you see outside so many churches. This month, they are taking the posters to the next level by inviting people to email in a question that they’d like answered by God.

The launch of the campaign has been intentionally slow and soft, and is building up over the month of September to include dialogue dinners, talks, and panel discussions. Several Christian organisations are partnering in the campaign and events are being held at Urban Grace Church, FEVA campuses and the City Bible Forum. Some brave souls even performed a flashmob on a Sydney train.

On the website, users are invited to type in question and enter their contact details. Malcolm Williams, director of Outreach Media says, “it’s easier to give long form answers via email, and makes participation easier”.

As the questions come in, they are distributed to a team of 40 historians, archaeologists, scientists and theologians who answer via return email. The most popular question so far has been, “Why is there suffering and evil?” followed by “God, show me your power by revealing special knowledge to me”.

Naturally there have been a few questions poking fun at the website: “Why is Alex always late to class?” And the existential question: “God, are you real?”

The aim of the campaign is to “start gospel conversations, and to see people come to Christ”. Williams says, “there are a number of people having ongoing email conversations about Christianity”.

AskGod.com.au communicates the idea that there actually are answers to the questions that we have for God. It helps people to begin to formulate their questions. Williams says, “for every person who asks a question there are many more thinking about what they would ask”.
