Bible Gateway is visited annually by around 150 million people and contains various Old and New Testament translations and resources. As Christianity Today reported, Bible Gateway analysed its site traffic immediately after the killing of almost 60 people at a Las Vegas concert on Sunday night, U.S. local time.

When compared with the aftermath of other major gun-related tragedies in the US – such as last year’s Orlando nightclub shooting, or the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012 – Bible Gateway found that people found solace in four specific Bible verses.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18

John 16:33, Psalm 34:18, Romans 12:19 and Psalm 11:5 were the top hits on Bible Gateway since the shooting in Las Vegas,

US President Donald Trump prominently quoted Psalm 34:18 in his response speech the day after the Las Vegas shooting. President Trump also mentioned God five times, including when he asked, “may God give us the grace of healing and may God provide the grieving families with strength to carry on.”

One survivor of the Las Vegas shooting, Taylor Benge, told CNN that the experience caused him to turn to God. Benge had been an atheist but he now is a “firm believer in God.”
